When it comes to proteins, we know you have a ton of choices. Shelves are lined with different choices… whey, vegan, egg white, casein, rice, and the list goes on. How do you know what kind to buy? And once you choose what kind of protein, what are the differences between brands? For fifteen years, I worked for multiple sports nutrition companies that all sold various types of proteins. These proteins had ingredient lists a mile long, filled with artificial flavors, colors and ingredients. I wanted something better, and so Propello Life was born. I remember sitting in the kitchen with my wife, and we were discussing how she couldn’t find a vegan protein that had quality ingredients and tasted great. So, we made one!
Why is ours better? I will attempt to explain this without getting too scientific…here goes!
Plant Based Proteins (Vegan) vs Dairy Based Proteins (Whey Protein, Casein Protein, Milk Protein)
The main difference between plant based, vegan proteins and dairy based protein is lactose. Plant based, vegan proteins are lactose free and dairy based proteins are not. So, if you are lactose intolerant or just get stomach issues after drinking your whey protein shake, you may want to try our Vegan Protein.
Why Propello Life’s Vegan Protein is best
There are many plant based, vegan proteins on the market. Your two main choices are to buy:
- A single source option (Soy, Pea, Hemp, etc…)
- Or a blend of two or more plant based proteins
A concern with buying a single source protein, especially if you are a vegan or vegetarian, is with getting the bulk of your protein from one source. This can lead to deficiencies in certain amino acids or developing mild food intolerance due to over consumption of a specific protein source. When it comes to a balanced diet, variety is important! That is one of the reasons why Propello Life chose to do a blend. Plant based proteins are typically high in certain essential amino acids and low in others. By using a blend, we were able to balance the essential amino acid profile to maximize muscle recovery.
But Propello Life is not the only option for a blended plant based, vegan protein. So, what makes ours best? When it comes to the “other” options, you will likely see the following
- A base of soy protein paired with rice protein
- Or a base of pea protein paired with rice protein.
First, the majority of the “other” brands do not use organic protein sources like Propello Life does. Second, be careful with soy. Beyond the controversial estrogenic properties, 90% of soy is from genetically modified plants. Propello Life only uses Non-GMO ingredients due to the potential harmful health implications of GMO foods. Third, rice protein is a low quality, non-complete protein that has been linked to high levels of heavy metals if you don’t use a clean, high quality source. Heavy metals, such as arsenic, have been found in some protein powders and are linked to causing cancer. Additionally, rice protein is a low-cost protein and is being used to lower the cost of the product to pad margins – at the expense of the customer. My advice would be to steer clear of soy and rice proteins if given the choice.
Propello Life uses organic plant based proteins. We paired our organic pea protein with a superfood blend of organic hemp, chia, and sachi inchi proteins. Each of our superfood proteins are complete proteins individually and the blend balances the essential amino acid profile. Plus, Propello Life’s Vegan Protein is double tested to be free of heavy metals. We test the individual ingredients before they are combined, and then we test the final blended product. So, we know for sure that our products are clean, the highest quality, and best tasting on the market.
- Dairy proteins have lactose and can cause stomach issues; if this happens to you, we recommend a plant based, vegan protein.
- Most plant based, vegan options are either soy or pea protein paired with rice protein
- Rice protein is not a complete protein, low cost, and can be low quality if not sourced correctly
- Some proteins have been found to be high in heavy metals linked to causing cancer.
You want to use a product that uses the cleanest, highest quality, tested ingredients.
- Propello Life uses organic proteins
- Propello Life uses an organic, superfood protein blend paired with organic pea protein
- Propello Life double tests each product to guarantee quality and efficacy
At first glance, you may think all proteins are created equal, but that is not the case. The difference between good and great is sometimes measured in the smallest increments. My suggestion is to go with a brand you trust and a brand you can talk to. Propello Life is a small company with a big mission and high integrity. We pride ourselves on delivering the highest quality products and service to our customers. Just reach out to us if you have any questions!
