Cinnamon Sugar Baked Donuts

Anyone who knows of Ina Garten knows everything she makes is full of flavor and delight (and butter).

We took her Cinnamon Baked Donuts recipe and added our Vegan Protein Spiced Vanilla (because adding protein to anything makes it healthier, right?!?).

We aren't saying these are "healthy" donuts, but at least they are baked and have a little protein in them! 

Oh and our kids already asked if we could make them again tomorrow!  Hope you enjoy them as much as we did!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 c. all-purpose organic flour 
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 t. baking powder
  • 1 t. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 t. ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 t. kosher salt
  • 1 scoop Propello Life Vegan Protein Spiced Vanilla 
  • 1 extra large egg
  • 1 1/4 c. milk (we used organic whole milk)
  • 2 T. organic butter melted 
  • 2 t. pure vanilla extract

FOR THE TOPPING

  • 8 T. (1 stick) organic butter
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 t. ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
  • Spray donut pans with spray oil (we used Trader Joe's coconut oil spray)
  • Sift all dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, protein) into a large glass bowl
  • Whisk egg, milk, melted butter and vanilla in a smaller bowl
  • Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients, and mix until combined
  • Spoon into donut pans and fill a little over 2/3 of the way full
  • Bake for 15 min until baked (use a toothpick to check for doneness)
  • Let sit for 5 min in pan to cool slightly
  • While waiting for them to cool, melt your stick of butter in a saute pan and mix your sugar and cinnamon on a plate
  • Dump donuts out of pans and dunk one side into the butter and then cinnamon sugar mixture, then the other side.  Place on baking rack to cool and continue with the rest of the donuts
  • For maximum deliciousness, eat while warm! You can always reheat in microwave for 8 seconds if any of them last until later!
  • Enjoy!!!
